Verticals

We support high performing entrepreneurs who are developing and commercializing innovations and inventions in digital health, medtech and biotech/techbio. We believe that by doing so we can “Bring healthcare to people, and People to healthcare when needed”. With existing frontier and emerging technologies such as AI/ML, Blockchain, Medical Internet of Things (IoT) and factoring AI, Climate and Gender (aligned to the SDGs), we are aiming for great returns and long term sustainable positive impact outcomes.

Digital Health

Digital health startups develop software to solve a healthcare challenge through digital channels. These digital health solutions are at the convergence of health and tech and aim to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes and to make medicine more personalized and precise.. These tend not to be hardware or physical assets. Examples of such are Fintech for healthcare, insuretech,  telemedicine, EHR/EMR, digital therapeutics etc.

Medtech

Medical technologies are products or solutions (ideally with services) used to save and improve people’s lives, by preventing, diagnosing, monitoring, treating and caring for diseases (- at every phase of the patient pathway). Startups in this space are supported to secure funding for research, development, and commercialization of both locally designed, manufactured and assembled, and licensed medical devices. Diagnosis technologies include stethoscopes, hypodermic needles, blood pressure cuffs among others

Biotech / Techbio

Biotech (science-first) or traditional biotech views technology as a tool applied to biological problems, involving harnessing cellular and biomolecular processes to develop technologies and products that help improve people’s health and lives.

TechBio (tech-first) integrates cutting-edge technologies, like AI, big data analytics, nanotechnology, and robotics, with biological sciences to develop innovative solutions. TechBio positions technology as the primary catalyst for biological innovation

Assistive Technologies & Accessibility

Assistive Technologies (AT) are services or products that can range from physical products to digital solutions such as speech recognition or time management software and captioning.  These are any item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities. It helps people who have difficulty speaking, typing, writing, remembering, pointing, seeing, hearing, learning, walking, and many other things. Different disabilities require different assistive technologies. Examples include wheelchairs, glasses, prosthetic limbs, white canes, and hearing aids. AT is more and more focused on a general Accessibility for all.

Femtech

Women and girls represent more than 50% of Africa’s population, with a median age of 18 years old. With this burgeoning population and increasing smartphone penetration, there is a growing demand for accessible and innovative healthcare solutions tailored to women and girl’s needs.

By supporting Femtech startups with coaching, mentoring and investment capital, we can foster the development of scalable and sustainable solutions that tackle issues such as maternal mortality, reproductive health, and access to healthcare services. Furthermore, investing in Femtech not only has the potential to improve health outcomes but also to drive economic growth and empowerment by creating employment opportunities and fostering entrepreneurship among women and preparing girls for increased economic engagement.
